The Nursing Assistant I course at Forsyth Tech is a state-approved course which teaches basic nursing skills to the student. Such skills are required to provide personal care for patients, residents, the elderly and others requiring medical assistance in a healthcare setting. Emphasis is placed on patient safety and infection control, the aging process, communication, legal and ethical issues, patient rights, personal care, vital signs, elimination, nutrition, emergencies, rehabilitation, proper body mechanics and mental health. This course includes a clinical component.<\/p>\n

Students are prepared to take the North Carolina Nurse Aide Competency Examination, a requirement for listing on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry. Upon successful completion of the exam, the candidate will be considered a Certified Nursing Assistant I (CNA I). CPR certification is included in the class and required to take by all students\u00a0even if they hold a current certification.<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t <\/div>\r\n\t\t\t \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n\n\n

The Dorothy L. Lougee, Nursing Assistant I hybrid course integrates online instruction and in-person, lab work, and clinical practice. The online component of the class is through Blackboard, a virtual learning environment, offering students guided study through the various course modules while ensuring participation through assigned readings, weekly assignments, as well as discussion board postings. Typically, students are given a week to submit assignments online, with periodic commentary and discussion board postings to be included by the instructor(s) and other students. This course is ideal for students who are proficient in the use of technology, independent in their work processes and are in need of a flexible classroom schedule. A course calendar is available for students to reference the days and times in which they are required to attend campus for CPR, lab work, and for the clinical component of the course.<\/p>\n\t\t\t <\/div>\r\n\t\t\t \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n\n\n

Prior to enrolling in a Nursing Assistant I course, students must be in compliance with the mandatory vaccination and immunizations required by the participating clinical facilities.\u00a0 Students are required to complete placement tests to ensure a 10th grade reading level and 6th grade math level of knowledge.\u00a0 Testing can be scheduled by contacting Nicole Ard\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>nard@forsythtech.edu<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0or call\u00a0<\/span><\/span>336.734.7831.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0 Additionally, the students will be required to complete a background check<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0drug screening<\/strong>\u00a0as a part of the enrollment process.<\/p>\n

To facilitate these requirements, the Health Sciences Division has enlisted the help of a Compliance Tracking System, COMPLIO<\/strong>, which will guide students through the process and assist in keeping their records updated along their career pathway.\u00a0 The fee for this service is $95 for 2 years and can be renewed if needed.<\/p>\n

To start the process, the student will need to setup an account at\u00a0http:\/\/forsythtechcompliance.com\/<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 Once this account is activated, the background check and drug screen will be initiated.\u00a0 A direct helpline and video tutorials are available on the site.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Students will be required to upload documentation for the following immunizations and vaccinations:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Tdap\/Td<\/strong>\u2013 Total of 1 vaccination within the last 10 years<\/li>\n
  2. MMR<\/strong>\u2013 Total of 2 vaccinations -OR- Lab report showing a positive blood titer for measles, mumps and rubella<\/li>\n
  3. Varicella<\/strong>\u2013 Total of 2 vaccinations -OR- Lab report showing a positive blood titer for Varicella (chicken pox)<\/li>\n
  4. Tuberculin (TB) Test<\/strong>\u2013 Negative results of 2 TB skin tests within the last 12 months (must be administered at least 7 days apart)\n
